About
Discover the Rural City and Surrounds of Swan Hill.
A Pocket History of Swan Hill
The Wemba Wemba and Wati Wati people have lived in this area for 9,000-13,000 years. It was called “Matakupaat”. Major Thomas Mitchell re-named it Swan Hill in 1836 and European settlement emerged about 1848. An agricultural community developed. A thriving Rural City of about 11,000 people now exists.
