Op Shopping as a cost-of-living-defying activity is second to none and Swan Hill provides a fresh and bountiful range of stock through which to browse. Now, before you tell me that Swan Hill is a long way to go to trawl through op shops, let me tell you about how amazing the Swan Hill Op Shops are.

There are four Op shops in the Swan Hill main town area and of course the mega opportunity, out of town, at the Big Green Shed. Unlike city Op shops, rural Op Shops have a much more genuine, community feel to them. The stock hasn’t been trawled over by thousands of customers within days of arrival and the stock isn’t piled high and deep into the confines of teeny weeny shops.

The volunteers that keep the op shops fresh and vibrant are helpful and friendly. The donations of goods come from far and wide. The stock comes and goes pretty quickly but the generosity of the donations never ceases to amaze me. Really good stuff waiting to be re-imagined. re-purposed and re-housed .

The Big Green Shed, a bit out of town – you will need to drive – is recycling and caring for the environment on steroids. The outdoor area and in one or two very big, dusty sheds contain a mountain of items that are rescued and offered for sale, rather than ending up in landfill. Toys, homewares, building materials, if you can think of it, there may be one at the Big Green Shed.
